Lisa Thon at Bryant Park

On September 6th., the Bryant Park Grill was transformed into a fresh green and aqua tropical paradise entitled "Blessed Forest." Lisa Thon, of Puerto Rico, had forty-four lovely designs combining colors of sky, land, water, and foliage in embroidered chiffon, silk charmeusse and silk shantung, crisp taffeta, lace, and tulle.

From the first bright aqua embroidered chiffon short dress covered with an aqua silk shantung cropped jacket, Ms. Thon provided visual pleasure. When aqua and leaf green were combined in a silk charmeusse blouse with a green bikini and again in a short lingerie-like lace dress with a jacket, we were charmed.

A tiny green beaded bikini with jeweled accents and tones of blue, and a chiffon and faille dress in the same colors created continued surprise. Bikinis in chocolate and cream with halter straps, sometimes beaded, evoked a sandy island scene.

Beading on a short blue dress with a paler blue lacy overlay and later, a light blue dress with a lacy cream overlay, were made even lovelier by the superb choice of models whose skin tones completed the mood. An olive burnout chiffon blouse was shown with sand silk capri pants, as well. A teal monokini (bathing suit) with sculpted back would be ideal for the fashionable woman who wouldn't care to wear a bikini, but would wish to appear provocative.

Two dresses; a balloon hemmed dress in printed emerald green chiffon, and a mid-thigh two-tone green silk charmeusse design reminded one of sun shining through a forest. Thon's dresses became even more feminine with the inclusion of a leaf green taffeta creation with one shoulder coverage and a ruffled street length hem.

An evening in San Juan would be the perfect occasion to wear the emerald green chiffon flowing print gown, or the pistachio and dark blue chiffon burnout halter dress with crossed strap detail at the back. Cream lace shorts and a pistachio chiffon blouse, as well as sand coarse silk shorts with printed halter-tied top and sand cropped jacket would provide elegant, yet casual ensembles for a warm day in town.

Ecru and chocolate were combined in short taffeta and lace dresses, one backless, and another with ruffles and an uneven hem. A cream and lilac lace chiffon blouse over a cream bikini was stunning. Lilac silk shantung was used in a cropped jacket with puffed sleeves, over a cream and lilac lace skirt that was delightful to behold.

A cement color beaded tulle gown with a jeweled belt and an empire beaded chiffon dress in light olive captured our attention. The final piece de resistance was an irridescent gold shantung long gown covering one shoulder, with a short ballooned hem at the front becoming longer at the back.

This was a show not to be missed. We hope Lisa Thon will continue to delight us in future fashion seasons.

Bryant Park Sparkles With Fashion Tents

The Spring 2008 Mercedes Benz Fashion Tents in Bryant Park between 40th and 42nd Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues were surrounded by beauty last week, September 5-12. The New York Public Library, where several fashion shows were presented, and the tall, white birch trees created a lovely setting. City natives as well as visitors could relax in desk-type chairs to read from the mobile lending library shelves, or listen to the music being played on a brightly colored piano within the park.
The summery weather further enhance the park experience.
On the 6th Avenue side of the park, tall steps to the main entrance provided onlookers a clear view of celebrities entering the Tents with show tickets in hand. The Bryant Cafe and Bryant Grill provided park visitors the opportunity to purchase refreshments. Even the well- maintained restrooms were adorned with splended flower arrangements. Excitement was everywhere.
Many designers chose alternative sites for their shows because there was concern that the Bryant Park site might not be adequate. Beside the Public Library, the Bryant Park Grill, the Soho Grand Hotel, the Metropolitan Pavilion, Gotham Hall, Studio 450, Exit Art, Pure Project, and Hotel QT, there were several other sites for shows and presentations. Mercedes Benz has announced that they have contracted to use Bryant Park for two more years, which was welcome news to those who love the park and its location.
